The Children’s Program and Events Committee of The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will offer a story time reading by Dawn Wilensky from her extraordinary children’s book, No Ordinary Yarmulke on Sunday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. A related children’s activity of painting white fabric yarmulkes will follow. The suggested ages for the exciting event are 3-10 years old. The cost is $3.00 per child (with adult supervision).

No Ordinary Yarmulke is the story of a boy named Holden, who just a week away from his Bar Mitzvah, travels (in his mind) through Jewish history via some truly magical yarmulkes and gains the knowledge to stand proudly at the bimah for his big day. Much of the inspiration for the book came from Wilensky’s son Austin’s journey of self-discovery as he prepared for his special day. “While every young man’s journey is different, keeping traditions alive and respecting and learning from the past can enrich one’s experience as they prepare for this important milestone. No Ordinary Yarmulke will certainly delight and educate children of all ethnicities and religions,” Wilensky said in an interview.

Wilensky holds a B.A. in English and Journalism from Brooklyn College. She has written for trade magazines, newspapers, and online news sites for over 20 years. Wilensky lives in Marlboro, NJ with her husband, Stu, and son Austin. She and her husband Stu own The Goddard School at West Windsor in West Windsor, NJ.
