Artists make art for a variety of reasons. A few wish to chronicle their own experiences and the times in which they lived. In the “roaring twenties” Florine Stettheimer made unique paintings of her artistic friends and the dizzying social, cultural and economic world that was New York. From the Harlem Renaissance, to beauty pageants to movie palaces to the World Series she showed us the birth of the world we know today.
A retrospective of her work is presently displayed at the Jewish Museum & a trip is being planned for July.
