MacArthur award winner and Yiddish Book Center founder Aaron Lansky to speak and sign books at CBI
Sunday, June 4 –
10:30 AM: Congregation B’nai Israel
Speaker: Aaron Lansky
Topic: Outwitting History: Saving a Culture through Books
Aaron Lansky was only 23 when he set himself the task of rescuing Yiddish books from oblivion. His story is vividly captured in the book Outwitting History. It is the amazing tale of a young man who rescued over a million Yiddish books and founded the National Yiddish Book Centre in Amherst, MA – now a thriving multi-media hub of activity, where college students flock to learn Yiddish language and culture. Lansky has rich and moving stories to relate. Bridging the gap between the Old World and the New, he is credited with reviving a culture that was thought to be dead.
“Lansky and the National Yiddish Book Center have done more than outwitted history, they have reversed it.” Book Page.com
