Devin Naar, the Isaac Alhadeff Professor of Sephardic Studies at the University of Washington, will discuss his recent book "Jewish Salonica: Between the Ottoman Empire and Modern Greece," winner of the 2016 National Jewish Book Award for Archival Research. The book tells the story of the tumultuous transition of the Sephardic Jewish community in Salonica (Thessaloniki), after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the incorporation of the city into Greece, as they forged a new place for themselves in Greek society. It is the first book to tell the story through the voices and perspectives of Salonican Jews themselves. It is free and open to the public. Free parking is available. RSVP requested to: [email protected], 848-932-2033, or on the Bildner Center website. More information at http://BildnerCenter.Rutgers.edu.
